Knowledge workshop – presentation purposes

Project description

Case Study 29

INITIAL SITUATION: The Wissenswerkstatt in Friedrichshafen is aimed at children and young people between the ages of 5 up to 18. To playfully arise enthusiasm for technology and science, they have assembled a motor for learning purposes. A combustion engine is not only complex, but also very heavy. Here our aluminium gantry crane is used. The aim is not only to teach the students how to work, but also to dismantle and move components such as the cylinder head.

SOLUTION: You cannot get any closer in terms of technology, especially when weight doesn’t matter by using intelligent lifting technology. The cylinder head has two attachment points. For this reason, two trolleys have been integrated combined with two suitable manual chain hoists including chain storage bags. In addition, the aluminium gantry crane is not only fitted with braking wheels, but also with 4 x 90° direction fixation. This allows the complete crane to be precisely moved in both longitudinal and transverse direction and to be fixed in any position.

RESULT: The ceilings at classrooms are lower than “real” workshops. For that reason, the version with double beam has been used so that the maximum lift in relation to the total height of the crane can be used. Technology can be experienced, so a “How does this work?” can be impressively displayed directly on the object. The students are happy and so are we, of course!
