In the winter months, when the ships of the White Fleet are no longer on the lake, the shipyard staff of Bodensee-Schiffsbetriebe in Constance have their hands full. Maintenance work is always due on each of the 16 ships of the White Fleet at the end of the season.
The shipyard employees check all safety-relevant parts of the ships, maintain propellers, lubricate pumps and check the installations of the entire catering facilities. In addition, the ships receive a new coat of paint, if necessary.
For particularly heavy work, the shipyard employees use lifting technology from SCHILLING - aluminium gantry cranes and lifting beams.
For example, a SCHILLING aluminium gantry crane and matching aluminium lifting beams were used to move the 1.8 tonne engines of the "Stuttgart" up from the engine room and remove them. Our space-saving and very flexible gantry cranes and a matching traverse are exactly the right tools for the cramped conditions on site.
After the engines have been successfully removed with our lifting equipment, they are sent to Bremen for overhaul. The engines then have to be reinstalled in the ship in time for the Christmas market in Constance, as the "Stuttgart" has to be ready to sail as a Christmas market ship in Constance.
Further product application reports (case studies) will follow.
