Safely moving bulky fitness equipment with a SCHILLING aluminium gantry crane

When rooms are redesigned or training areas reorganised, existing fitness equipment also needs to be moved. Due to its size and weight, however, this type of equipment cannot simply be repositioned without suitable lifting equipment.

This was exactly the challenge faced by a fitness and health centre. As part of a reorganisation of its premises, bulky training equipment had to be moved within the existing building. A solution was needed that would allow the equipment to be lifted and repositioned in a controlled manner while also fitting within the limited space available on site.

A standard crane, flexibly adapted to the application

A stationary SCHILLING aluminium gantry crane with a single beam and a load capacity of 1,000 kg was used.

One particular feature of this application is the beam. The 4 m beam is split into two 2 m sections. As the shorter length was sufficient for the work in the health centre, only one of the two 2 m beam sections was used.

This demonstrates a practical advantage of SCHILLING split beams: depending on the application and available space, the full beam length can be used or the crane can be set up with a shorter beam section. This provides additional flexibility, particularly in existing buildings where walls, equipment or other structural conditions limit the available working area.

Wheel kit for easy repositioning

The stationary aluminium gantry crane was also equipped with a wheel kit for indoor use. This allows the unloaded crane to be moved within the premises and repositioned at the next location.

An important distinction: a stationary gantry crane equipped with a wheel kit must not be moved under load. It therefore differs from our aluminium gantry cranes specifically designed to be movable under load.

For the reorganisation of the fitness area, this combination provided exactly the flexibility required: position the crane, lift and reposition the fitness equipment in a controlled manner, then move the unloaded crane to the next location.

Flexibility can also come as standard

This application demonstrates that a special solution is not always necessary when space is limited or site conditions are unusual.

Thanks to the split beam and additional wheel kit, a standard SCHILLING product could be flexibly adapted to the task on site. This allowed the bulky fitness equipment to be moved exactly where lifting support was required.
