Moving Heavy Art Safely: Flexible SCHILLING Aluminium Gantry Crane for a Sculptor

Large sculptures impress with their shape, material and craftsmanship – but they often also come with considerable weight. For sculptors, this means that works of art need to be lifted and positioned in the workshop, prepared for transport and handled safely at their final location or exhibition site.

For this application, a SCHILLING aluminium gantry crane supports the day-to-day lifting tasks. It enables controlled lifting and positioning of heavy sculptures, reduces physically demanding work and supports safe handling for both people and works of art.

Aluminium gantry crane for heavy sculptures

The solution is a stationary SCHILLING aluminium gantry crane, single-beam version, medium height, with a load capacity of 1,500 kg and a divisible 4 m beam.

The particular requirement of this project: The gantry crane was not only intended for use in the workshop. A flexible solution was also needed to lift and position heavy sculptures during transport.

Flexible thanks to the modular SCHILLING system

This is where the advantage of our modular system comes into play. In addition to the standard crane, the customer chose a matching small side frame.

Depending on the application, the components can be combined in different configurations. As shown in the pictures, the aluminium beam can be used together with the additional side frame directly on the trailer.

This gives the sculptor a suitable lifting solution during transport as well, allowing heavy sculptures to be lifted and positioned in a controlled manner.

Divisible aluminium beam for easy transport

Especially when working at different locations, the lightweight aluminium design offers advantages in terms of transport, assembly and handling. The divisible 4 m beam also makes it easier to transport the individual components.

Rather than providing a custom solution designed for just one specific task, this project demonstrates how a standard SCHILLING gantry crane can be adapted to different applications thanks to its flexible modular system.

The result: controlled lifting of heavy sculptures, less physical strain during demanding tasks and greater flexibility between the workshop, transport and the final location.
