Special crane successfully realized for confined spaces

During the installation of a staircase, the site conditions placed high demands on the lifting technology used. Heavy stair elements and construction materials had to be moved precisely and installed step by step within a narrow corridor.

Particularly challenging were the confined space conditions as well as the length of the staircase construction.

For this project, SCHILLING developed a custom-made aluminium special gantry crane precisely tailored to the on-site requirements.

Special crane for confined spaces and long components

Standard solutions quickly reach their limits on complex construction sites or in demanding assembly areas. In this project, a lifting solution had to be realized that enabled safe and precise handling of the heavy stair elements despite the limited space available.

The main challenges included:

• narrow corridor with limited movement space

Custom aluminium gantry crane as a special solution

For this project, SCHILLING developed a stationary aluminium gantry crane in a custom design. The special crane was specifically engineered and manufactured to meet the customer’s requirements.

The solution was based on an aluminium single-girder gantry crane with the following features:

• load capacity up to 500 kg 
• stationary design 
• lightweight aluminium construction 
• individually designed side frames 
• special construction for confined spaces 
• precise handling of heavy loads 

A particular highlight is the beam length of up to 12 m.

While standard SCHILLING systems allow beam lengths of up to 8 m with segmented sections, this project required a custom solution with three beam segments. This allows flexible beam lengths of 4 m, 8 m or 12 m depending on the application.

The specially developed side frames were additionally adapted to the confined installation area.
