Aluminium gantry crane movable under load for satellite integration in a cleanroom

The integration of satellites and sensitive payloads requires precise lifting and positioning – particularly when both the available headroom and space are limited.

For this demanding application, our customer uses a specially configured SCHILLING aluminium gantry crane movable under load in a cleanroom. With a load capacity of 1,000 kg, a double beam, ATEX configuration and an electric trolley, the crane system supports a variety of lifting tasks during satellite integration.

The aluminium gantry crane in the cleanroom is primarily used for satellite integration, lifting payloads and lifting and positioning heavy integration tables.

Precise lifting and positioning in confined spaces

One of the main challenges in this application is the limited available height and width. At the same time, different loads need to be lifted and positioned precisely during the integration process.

To adapt the crane system to the available space, the beam length was shortened to suit the limited room width.

Another advantage is the use of horizontal adjusters on both side frames. These allow the position of the side frames along the beam to be adjusted. In this application, both side frames are positioned further inwards, as can be clearly seen in the image. This allows the aluminium gantry crane to be flexibly adapted to the available space and the specific lifting task.

The aluminium gantry crane is also equipped with directional adjusters and an electric trolley with an electric chain hoist.

The electric trolley enables loads to be lifted and lowered as well as moved horizontally along the double beam. This allows payloads, integration tables and other loads to be positioned according to the specific requirements of the application.

Radio remote control for greater flexibility during positioning

The electric trolley and electric chain hoist are equipped with a radio remote control. This allows the lifting, lowering and travelling functions to be controlled from a safe distance.

For satellite integration in a cleanroom, this provides an important advantage: the operator can choose a suitable position and control the lifting and positioning process from an appropriate viewing angle.

Assembly at a low height thanks to hand winches

The limited available headroom was also taken into account when configuring the aluminium gantry crane. Each side frame is equipped with a hand winch for height adjustment.

This allows the gantry crane to be assembled at a low height first. The double beam can then be raised to the required working height using the two hand winches.

This solution facilitates assembly in confined spaces and enables the crane height to be flexibly adapted to the respective lifting task.

ATEX gantry crane for demanding operating conditions

In addition to the requirements regarding available space and precise positioning, the aluminium gantry crane was designed in an ATEX configuration. The crane system is suitable for operation both indoors and outdoors.

The equipment includes the sectional double beam, horizontal and directional adjusters, the electric trolley with electric chain hoist and radio remote control, as well as the required cabling and power supply.

The complete aluminium gantry crane was supplied by SCHILLING ready for connection and operation.
